School of Innovation & Technology

14 departments, 99 students

The School of Innovation and Technology aims to socially integrate technological innovations in a way that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries within art and science. It offers an opportunity for students to learn how to critique the ways we live using design in combination with scientific knowledge, by thinking about what the capacity of designers will be to look at key changes needed now in multiple aspects of our lives.

Our diverse community is made up of designers, researchers, 3D modellers, psychologists, computer programmers, sound engineers and artists – experimenting, exploring creative opportunities and challenging traditional disciplinary perceptions of design. As part of Postgraduate Degree Show 2024, our students examine complex questions in fields such as healthcare, education, technology and, pressingly, within the context of the climatic and ecological crises.

Our student-led approach ensures a rich and individual experience in small, focused teaching cohorts, supported by a network of staff, peers and industry experts. At our campuses both in Glasgow and the Highlands, we create unique environments for learning and cross-disciplinary collaboration that help to nurture ground-breaking design projects and research for the good of all.

Winter School brings together students and faculty from leading institutions around the world for a seasonal event at SIT's Highlands campus in Forres. The programme includes lectures, workshops and networking opportunities, all based around a theme that is relevant to the citizens and businesses of the Highlands and Islands.
