This programme examines the relationship between design practice and contemporary society, using design to critique the present and explore possibilities for social change. Students move beyond traditional professional roles to identify opportunities for new design activity and innovative forms of engagement. They collaborate with citizens to respond to emerging problems, political issues and social phenomena. The programme understands citizenship as participation in community and the ability to influence circumstances and processes affecting everyday life, using “thinking through design” to support people in taking greater control and creating meaningful change.
