VISGO – Empowering Journeys, Enriching Lives

VISGO is an innovative service designed to enhance transport information accessibility for people with vision impairments in Glasgow, Scotland. This project addresses the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals in navigating the city’s complex and fragmented public transport system.

The service centers around a fully accessible mobile application that integrates real-time information from various transport operators, alongside critical accessibility details. However, VISGO extends beyond a mere app, encompassing a holistic service design with multiple touchpoints and a four-phase user journey: Awareness, Onboarding, Usage, and Impact.

Key features include consolidated transport information, community engagement tools, and personalized journey planning. The service is developed through a collaborative effort between Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), Triple Tap Tech, and other third-sector organizations, ensuring a deep understanding of both transport systems and the needs of visually impaired users.

VISGO’s approach is unique in its comprehensive support system, which includes accessible promotional materials, multi-format guidebooks, and an adaptive mobile application. The service aims not only to improve mobility but also to foster independence, social connectivity, and community engagement among its users.

By focusing on user-centric design and leveraging technology to bridge accessibility gaps, VISGO represents a significant step towards more inclusive urban transport. The project demonstrates how targeted service design can address complex social challenges, potentially serving as a model for similar initiatives in other cities.
