A Collaborative Natural Hazard Plan: Creating Response and Management Strategies for Wildfires in the Mediterranean Region

How might a collaborative approach to wildfire response strategies in the Mediterranean Region, using the Aegean Sea as a geopolitical case study, illustrate the role of social structures and power dynamics on environmental crises?

Firescapes is a critical exploration of how artificial rules such as borders may impact the response and management of natural disasters.

The game is set in an imaginative, fire-prone landscape inspired by the Aegean Region. Players are asked to learn about logistical and diplomatic challenges and come up with a collaborative strategy to cope with the outbreaks of wildfires in the region when all the invisible rules of social and power constructions make the act of firefighting more challenging.

The game fosters empathy and emphasizes the importance of cross-border cooperation while calling for local governments to be authorized more and allowed to collaborate beyond borders in times of disaster.
