Martyna Szmigiero
Martyna Szmigiero, aka svefn, is a music composer, audiovisual artist, and sound designer. Their work spans from electronic music production to spatial audio experiences to music and sound design for visual media. Since 2014, they have frequently collaborated with film students and alumni of Poland’s National Film School. Their recent work explores the creative application of spatial audio technology, specifically Higher Order Ambisonics (HOA), in experimental electronic music composition to create immersive auditory experiences.

A spatial audio piece exploring Third-Order Ambisonics (TOA) and binaural audio in the context of electronic music composition. The piece was originally composed and produced in stereo, accompanied by experimental visuals rendering a nightly urban landscape as transcendental materiality.

Inspired by early film music techniques, the score uses leitmotifs, mickey mousing, and a mix of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds to shape the viewer’s perception of the avant-garde film by Maya Deren and Alexandr Hackenschmied (1943). The soundtrack attempts to blur the line between reality and fiction, enhancing the surreal imagery.
