Slow Travellers Society
The Slow Travellers Society is a unique program dedicated to promoting the art of slow travel across Scotland. Inspired by the principles of connection, cultural preservation, and sustainability, our program encourages travellers to immerse themselves deeply in the local lifestyle, culture, and natural beauty of the regions they visit. Through the development of a railway-based slow travel route, complemented by accessible walking and cycling paths, the program offers travellers a rich tapestry of experiences that go beyond traditional sightseeing.
The Slow Travellers Society brings together places, events, businesses, culture, and people, creating a vibrant community where travellers are not just visitors but temporary local residents. The program fosters a sense of responsibility and care for the places visited, encouraging travellers to support local businesses, engage with local communities, and contribute to the preservation of Scotland’s unique cultural heritage. We believe that travel should be an enriching experience, where the journey itself is as valuable as the destination.
Through curated travel routes, partnerships with local businesses, and community-driven initiatives, The Slow Travellers Society aims to redefine travel as a meaningful, sustainable, and culturally enriching activity. We invite travellers to slow down, connect deeply with their surroundings, and experience Scotland in a way that honours its history, culture, and people.
BeyondCare
Our program aims to provide current and former pupils who have been in the care system with a creative and open space outside the institution. This space allows them to express themselves freely and engage with others. The program consists of a series of art workshops that offer a non-institutionalized form of support, fostering engagement and relationships between past and current pupils. CrossReach serves as the primary facilitator, renting creative spaces around Glasgow. For instance, the Glasgow Zine Library offers spaces for zine-making, where current and past pupils can meet and participate in zine-making activities, interacting informally. Other creative spaces can be utilized for various activities, helping current pupils explore their interests, develop self-identity, and build connections. This program also provides support from individuals who have had similar experiences, helping current pupils prepare emotionally and gain confidence as they transition out of the care system.
