The Integration Of Forest Hiking And Education

The Integration Of Forest Hiking And Education

Forest hiking is becoming an increasingly popular outdoor activity, with more and more people joining in. In Scotland, nearly 29% of the population goes hiking weekly. However, my research has identified two common issues. First, people often lack knowledge about the various species they encounter during their hikes, such as plants and animals. Second, there is a relatively small number of young hikers, as they tend to prefer digital entertainment. These two insights inspired me to design an app that enhances the hiking experience for users.

Green Treasure is an app that combines education, hiking, and gamification to make the hiking experience more enjoyable. With its engaging interactive interface, it attracts more young people to hike and explore forests. The app not only helps hikers find suitable routes and understand their surroundings but also allows them to learn about different species in an exploratory way during their hikes. In the leveling system, as users identify more species, their level increases accordingly. The challenge system gamifies the learning process by encouraging users to apply their knowledge: they can search for specific species to unlock badges. Additionally, the community system makes it easier for people to organize events and find hiking partners.
