MDes Graphic Design/Illustration/Photography

Reid Building, 28 students

We are pleased to welcome you to view the work of students from the Masters of Design in Graphic Design, Illustration and Photography at The Glasgow School of Art. Yet again, we are astonished by the cohort’s focus, and we would like to congratulate them on their achievements.

Working across various disciplines, including Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, and the boundaries between and beyond, there are some fantastic projects for you to explore. The students have continued using creative forms of communication to challenge the world around us, whether exploring ideas of identity, faith, philosophy, or culture; their criticality and ethical awareness have always been at the forefront of their production.

We are incredibly proud as a staff team to see students working physically with thoughtful and detailed outcomes. The work is produced with industry in mind, with the highest possible standards as their goal. Seeing their momentum gain and witnessing an extremely active studio environment in which they have all been part has been a joy. We hope you enjoy the fruits of their labour as you navigate the degree show, and we wish this graduating year the very best as they move forward into their future careers.

The little things at home—soft cushions, a cosy blanket—make me feel really comfortable, and that matters more than I expected. On rainy days here in the UK, all I want is to lie on the sofa and fall asleep to the sound of the rain.
There's nothing quite like the comfort of being with someone you love.

from When You Need Warmth

My favorite memory has to be making the most delicious roasted sweet potatoes! For us northerners, roasted sweet potatoes are a winter essential. They’re soft, fragrant, and perfectly sweet. I even used the mashed sweet potatoes to make sandwich cookies— that was probably my most successful baking attempt ever. My friends all said they were amazing!

from When You Need Warmth

The spices and sauces here are really different from what I'm used to in China. Tesco only has the basics, so whenever I spot something familiar at a Chinese supermarket, it honestly makes my day. Sometimes, the taste of home is the warmest feeling you can find abroad.

That simple bowl of porridge held enough warmth to melt the chill of the whole day.
