Yuxin Jin
Yuxin Jin is an MDes Graphic Design student at the Glasgow School of Art. Her research‑driven practice explores digital visual culture, algorithmic aesthetics and the tension between online representation and physical reality.
Her graduate project Perfect Cake takes cupcakes as a case study to examine how social‑media‑driven “perfection” reshapes our perception of physical objects. Through visual experiments, publication design and AR prototyping, she interrogates how the pursuit of shareable imagery erases handmade imperfection and material uniqueness. Her work combines graphic analysis, image manipulation and physical outputs to reflect on the homogenising power of digital platforms.
Perfect Cake
Perfect Cake investigates social‑media visual perfectionism. Digital images no longer merely document reality but construct aesthetic rules that reshape physical objects. Taking cupcakes as a case study, this project uses vector tracing, pixel‑degradation experiments and comparative visual tests, alongside a printed publication and AR interactive prototype. It reflects on how online “shareable aesthetics” erase handmade traces, natural imperfections and individual uniqueness of physical objects.
