MLitt Fine Art Practice School of Fine Art
Ziqi Chen

Ziqi Chen, an artist currently based in Glasgow, completed her undergraduate studies in Art and Science at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. She holds a Master of Letters in Fine Art Practice’s degree from the Glasgow School of Art and pursuing a second master’s degree in fine arts at GAFA, with a focus on Printmaking and Image Media. With an interdisciplinary background bridging art and technology, she has developed a methodology that brings analytical thinking into visual creation, allowing her work to merge rational structure with artistic sensibility.
Working primarily in watercolour, she adopts juxtaposition as a central methodology, exploring the visual convergence of organic forms and artificial constructs.
Refusing to confine herself to a fixed trajectory, her practice shifts in response to evolving interests. Currently, her work explores the interplay between the natural and the synthetic within a condition of post-digital oversaturation. Through bold, vivid colour palettes, she intensifies both the tension and the harmony between contrasting elements. Her paintings are rich in symbolic motifs, examining how opposing materials and symbolic systems can coexist and interact on a single surface. This approach reflects a broader inquiry into contemporary image perception within an increasingly saturated and overloaded visual environment.
