Ziqi Chen, an artist currently based in Glasgow, completed her undergraduate studies in Art and Science at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. She holds a Master of Letters in Fine Art Practice’s degree from the Glasgow School of Art and pursuing a second master’s degree in fine arts at GAFA, with a focus on Printmaking and Image Media. With an interdisciplinary background bridging art and technology, she has developed a methodology that brings analytical thinking into visual creation, allowing her work to merge rational structure with artistic sensibility.

Working primarily in watercolour, she adopts juxtaposition as a central methodology, exploring the visual convergence of organic forms and digital constructs.

Refusing to confine herself to a fixed trajectory, the subjects of her paintings shift in response to her evolving interests—at present centring on the interplay between the natural and the synthetic within the context of post-digital oversaturation. Often working with bold, vivid colour palettes, she heightens the tension and harmony between contrasting elements. Her practice investigates how opposing materials and symbolic systems can coexist and interact on a single surface, reflecting a broader inquiry into how we perceive and navigate imagery in today’s visually saturated environment.
