Default Role
This study focuses on the traditional gender disciplinary paradigm of a virtuous wife and mother, and explores its expression in the spatial structure of Chinese families, especially in the kitchen as the core place for women. Through narrative research and case analysis, the project reveals that residential spaces are often designed from a male perspective, with women passively adapting to established structures and their subjectivity being compressed. The design experiment attempts to transform the kitchen from an invisible workplace into a collaborative and proactive space by reconstructing spatial layout, introducing shared spaces, and adjusting the scale of spatial objects, thereby breaking the patriarchal spatial hierarchy and reshaping women’s identity and power relationships in the family. The ultimate goal of this project is to explore how space can become a tool to resist gender discipline and call for the introduction of gender awareness in broader architectural and design systems to promote women’s physical and mental health and social participation.
FUZZY BOUNDARY BANQUET AND RESTAURANT
This project explores entertainment typology through a banquet that blurs the boundary between virtual and real.
The social pressure is closely linked to the development of the world of online entertainment, which people rely on to imagine as an untethered utopian world, an escape from reality. The development of the network is an inevitable trend, over-indulgence in the world of online entertainment will make people gradually lose the ability to communicate face-to-face, dialogue disappears, but people are real people, can not fully live in the virtual world, what is the boundary between virtual and reality, can we use the form of separation space to blur the boundary between reality and virtual entertainment, rebuild the offline virtual and real entertainment space, the virtual network world and the real world link.
Based on this concept and keywords, a real banquet hall has been designed that can host entertainment activities such as dining, conversations, and dancing, while also providing a virtual spectacle experience. People can return to the entertainment of real life and enhance communication between people.
The whole space is divided into two parts, and the form is used to form a wraparound circulation line, which allows customers to reach each area of the space and increase the interest of the space. The space consists of several main parts: waiting area, reception area, corridor, and banquet hall. The space function is mainly catering and banquets.
The corridor and banquet area in the space are separated by curtains. When the curtains are opened, the corridor and banquet area form a whole, endowing other functions and forming a banquet activity area that can be used for performances or dance activities, enriching people’s banquet experience.
Rescue Station of The Marginal Objects
Coexistence of Marginal Objects
Marginal spaces (like doocot) and objects are often overlooked, but they also have their own value and form a unique system with their own commonalities.
Providing space for these non-human things to coexist, giving space to abandoned spaces, creating an urban space where multiple objects coexist, and demonstrating the connection and value of marginal and abandoned objects.
The Marginal Object Rescue Station is not designed for a single species, but for groups of these marginal objects. An apt metaphor is that this marginal objects rescue station is like a ray of light shining through a neglected corner.
Design Ideas: the space is divided into three parts from outside to inside.
The first layer, using recycled material, replicates the exterior structure.
The second layer, using discarded metal and wooden sticks to build structures, forms a home for marginal objects, reflecting the sense of society and order among marginal objects.
The third layer, using membrane structure, reflects the vitality of the marginal objects through the change of size.
The venue door is on the right side, so there is no frame stacking on the right side. Due to the high height of the doocot, a deeper interactive mode is used to reflect the edge objects that invade human space. Utilize the space on the right to create an interactive device – a conveyor belt, with the upper level serving as a temporary storage area for peripheral items brought by people.
