Yongtu He

(She/Her)

Yongtu He is an artist based in Glasgow. Her practice draws from female experiences, exploring the hidden connections between the body, nature, and memory, and building narrative structures through symbolic imagery. Figures, animals, and plants in her paintings often inhabit ambiguous, fluid spaces—revealing affinities while maintaining distance. This surrealist sensibility keeps her works open to interpretation, hovering between reality and imagination.

In her 2025 solo exhibition Woven in Living Threads, she layered the female body with forests, foliage, animals, and other natural elements to explore the interweaving of perception, memory, and imagination. Rather than relying on direct narration, she guides viewers into a realm between reality and poetry through compositional rhythm, color, and the subtle “breathing” of details.
