PP Yiran Peng

(she/her)

PP Yiran Peng identified as an image-based artist. Her practice unfolds as a meditative act of construction, endless tracing an amorphous private sanctuary in her mind. Working through photography, video, and sculpture, she navigates memories processed and reassembled through images. On the ruins dismantled by alteration and disruption, she rebuilds with fascination, or lingers within the threshold space shaped by the tension between construction and destruction. Drawn to the solidity of concrete and metal, she embraces construction as a modest form of labor—an artistic method through which she intervenes in a life that risks becoming overly suspended.

The Moon Eclipse is the Empty Full Moon

The Moon Eclipse is the Empty Full Moon

This project aims to build a world of my childhood memories and the urban emotions by creating a soft dialogue among architecture, the people, and the moon.

In East Asian culture, the waxing and waning of the moon holds a great meaning of completeness – incompleteness, people get together – apart. The imagery provided by the ancients has continued for thousands of years, covering the moon itself. The illuminated, longing for the lie of completeness. Is the pursuit of “completeness” a kind of kitsch? When the full moon is “full”, all other phases become “incomplete”.

If the full moon symbolizes completeness, then is a lunar eclipse an empty full moon and symbolizes the void? In my opinion, the longing for completeness is actually the reflection of our awareness of the void.

Then the moon eclipse comes. The moon was cut out. The cries and laughter disappeared. The shadow swallowed the moon, leaving a dark red circle of void.

Now, the moon finally gets a moment of breath.
