Lion Dance: Make Your Roar 🦁

Lion Dance: Make Your Roar 🦁

It is a project that preserves and communicates Chinese lion dance as an intangible cultural heritage. Lion dance, which blends martial arts, music, and craftsmanship, is traditionally passed down through master-disciple or family-based teaching, making it vulnerable to social and cultural change.

This project applies photogrammetry, motion capture, and Unity game development to document and revitalise the practice. Lion heads were digitally scanned to preserve their craftsmanship, while movements were recorded with motion capture for authenticity. These were integrated into a game set in a stylised ancient town, where players explore, complete cultural quizzes, and progressively unlock kung fu and lion dance movements.

The outcome is an interactive learning experience that balances entertainment and education, making lion dance culture more accessible and engaging for modern audiences while supporting its long-term preservation.

The presentation and gameplay video and some developing process can be seen below 🫶🏻😺
