EXILES

EXILES

“The first thing the plague brought to our fellow citizens was a feeling of exile. That emptiness that never left our hearts, that sharp, undeniable longing, the irration, al desire either to reverse time or to hasten Its passing, the sudden stabs of memory-this was exile.”

-Camus, A. (1947). The Plague

This project critically engages with Albert Camus theory of the absurd, investigating the existential tension between the human pursuit of meaning and the universe’s inherent indifference.

By synthesising 1920s menswear with contemporary utilitarian aesthetics.it deconstructs and reconfigures structured silhouettes to articulate the disintegration of order and quest for individual agency within an irrational reality. Through iterative prototyping, material experimentation, and concept-driven draping, the garments function as visual metaphors for absurdist thought.

Beyond its philosophical foundation, the project advocates for responsible design practices foregrounding inclusivity, sus-tainability, and material consciousness. It aims to challenge the gender binary by constructing a fluid framework for self-ex-pression, positioning fashion as both a site of identity negotiation and a medium for existential inquiry.
