This project reimagines the pre-exam stage of gynaecological care to support modesty, emotional readiness, and cultural sensitivity, particularly for BAME women. Using the Whisper Path card game as a co-design tool, it uncovers how modesty is experienced as an emotional and cultural boundary, not just a matter of physical covering. Insights also reveal that cultural silence, language barriers, and past trauma often lead to confusion, shame, and emotional withdrawal before care begins.

In response to these unmet needs, the project proposes preparation tools and communication protocols that make emotional safety and modesty preferences both visible and actionable. These include culturally adaptable information, emotional expression aids, and preference-sharing interfaces. The goal is to move away from a one-size-fits-all model and towards a mutually beneficial care system, one that builds trust through culturally responsive and emotionally attuned design, for both patients and healthcare providers.

Designer’s bio

As an interdisciplinary designer, I believe design is not just about solving problems, it’s about challenging norms, amplifying unheard voices, and driving social change. I see design as a tool for social justice; one that questions what is often taken for granted and reshapes systems with empathy, equity, and inclusion. I aim to empower underrepresented communities, especially women, by reimagining experiences that have historically lacked cultural sensitivity and emotional care.

I’ve led branding and creative design across industries, collaborating with clients from corporations to cultural institutions. My experience spans service design, branding, visual identity and systemic thinking, yet my goal remains consistent: to use design as a catalyst for more just, caring, and pluralistic futures, where business and social value reinforce each other.
