MLitt Fine Art Practice School of Fine Art
JUDE ZAHID

Jude Zahid is a painter from Saudi Arabia, holding a BA in Fine Art and currently pursuing an MLitt in Fine Art Practice at The Glasgow School of Art. Her work is inspired by Arabic proverbs, which often carry absurd surface meanings yet conceal deeper truths about the human experience. Rooted in her cultural heritage but universally resonant, these sayings form the conceptual foundation of her practice.
Rather than illustrating proverbs literally, Zahid explores their metaphorical logic to construct compositions that reflect the fluidity of meaning. Everyday objects and familiar settings appear in her paintings, but they are reconfigured in ways that disrupt expectations and invite viewers to reconsider what feels familiar.
Collage, gouache, and mixed media are central to her process, allowing her to layer, fragment, and reassemble imagery. This method mirrors how memory, experience, and cultural associations are built, broken apart, and reimagined. Each material choice contributes to the narrative, shaping the way audiences engage with the work.
Through her practice, Zahid seeks to create space for reflection and dialogue. Her paintings encourage viewers to uncover hidden connections, explore symbolic depth, and experience the ordinary as a site of layered meaning, bridging personal memory and collective understanding.

As It Was | كَما كانَ
Is a series of quiet, everyday moments, where repetition feels like a ritual and ordinary objects carry memories. Each piece moves gently through light, texture, and space, capturing scenes that feel familiar. The patterns don’t repeat exactly, they invite reflection. What lingers is a soft echo, quietly woven into daily life.
