Velvet Breath

Velvet Breath

The inspiration for the work “velvet breath” originated from my own anxiety. I recorded the unconscious actions during those anxious moments – biting my nails, the subtle friction of my fingers – which are the body’s most direct responses to emotions. The tactile sensation of wool felt and the repetitive covering process are like a soft breath, soothing the inner tension and unease. In the work, the cold iron wire outlines the boundaries of the body, symbolizing fragility and rigidity; the foam plastic carries the accumulation and expansion of anxiety; and the wool felt covers it, using the warm fibers to settle and repair emotions. “Fingers” run through the entire series – reconstructed nails with silicone, softened and covered with flocking. They no longer bite but replace aggression with touch, symbolizing a self-soothing posture. The curled human body seems to be gently enveloped; the suspended sculptures hover between attraction and resistance, revealing the fragile emotions that are manipulated. The work continues the imagery of anxiety: disordered time, floating light and shadow, undulating lines. Together, they create a space between reality and illusion, allowing the weight of anxiety to be seen, touched, and gently placed.
