atelier
A Publication Celebrating Female Artists in Scotland
atelier is a small publication that documents female artists in Scotland. The project was produced in collaboration with all the artists involved. They generously shared their stories, their spaces, and their work with me. This publication is a true reflection of their generosity, strength, and creativity. The work began before my time at the Glasgow School of Art, when I started photographing women in their studio spaces in 2020. What began as a small experiment to improve my portraiture skills soon evolved into something much larger. Over time, I became increasingly aware of how underrepresented female artists are—not only in art schools but also in the wider gallery space. I wanted to create a publication that specifically showcases the work of female artists, shining a light on artistic talent that often goes unrecognised and overlooked. Despite making up over 73% of the UK’s postgraduate art student population, female artists remain vastly underrepresented in art institutions worldwide.Within the arts, women face unique challenges and offer vital new perspectives, yet they continue to be overlooked. Thankfully, the conversation is beginning to shift, and this publication aims to contribute to that dialogue—celebrating the wealth of female artistic talent in Scotland and offering a platform for their voices to be heard.
Waterbaby
Waterbaby is a contemplative series of cyanotype prints and short prose that explores the intimate and often emotional relationship between water and memory. Rooted in personal experience and collective resonance, the work reflects on how water functions as both a physical and symbolic space—one that heals, holds, and carries us through moments of transition, grief, and uncertainty. Water becomes a vessel for memory, offering comfort while also acting as a mirror for change. This work exists as a concertina book, it can be read anyway and in any direction, flowing back and forth – just like the flow of water.
