Ke Meng

(she/her)

I am a graphic designer with a strong focus on typography as both a visual and cultural tool. My practice explores how design can serve as a vehicle of narration and a machine for thinking, engaging with history, culture, and politics. Combining research, editorial design, and hands-on printmaking, I aim to create work that is not only visually engaging but also thought-provoking and socially conscious.

Another Serving

Another Serving

Another Serving is a project that critically examines the cultural and historical implications of the Chop Suey typeface. Using the familiar form of a Chinese takeout box, it presents three interconnected themes: anti-Chinese sentiment, the resilience of the Chinese American community, and the problematic cultural associations embedded in the typeface. Through experimental typography and fragmented layouts, the project positions type as both a narrative vehicle and a critical lens, challenging Eurocentric design standards while encouraging readers to reconsider the meanings embedded in typography.
