Bixia Jin

Bixia Jin is an artist who lives in Glasgow. She created watercolor paintings inspired by abandoned and aging buildings found throughout the city. These structures, though often overlooked, hold a mysterious and quiet presence. They appear uninhabited, yet subtle traces of human activity remain—faded walls, broken windows, forgotten objects—hinting at stories that have long passed. The ambiguity of time in these places fascinates her: it is often unclear when they were abandoned, or what they might have been before—a tree trunk, a pond.
Watercolor, with its soft edges and transparent layers, allows her to capture the delicate and fleeting atmosphere of these spaces. Through her work, she explores the in-between—where nature meets architecture, memory meets imagination, and presence meets absence. Her paintings invite viewers to slow down, look closer, and rediscover the quiet poetry hidden in the urban landscape.
