Hannah Gibson

b.1996 Glasgow
Hannah Gibson’s practice shifts between painting, drawing and textiles. Through layering these mediums, she explores ideas of materiality, archaeology and the built environment. Treating the surface as an active, responsive field, she approaches painting as an object in which form, structure and content are interdependent. Her use of fabric dyeing, frame construction and textile-based transparency reflects a sustained engagement with layering as a way of translating overlapping histories and temporal shifts. Drawing remains central to her process, functioning both as a spatial investigation and as a means of thinking through mark, matter and memory. In this way, her painting process mirrors the act of uncovering and excavating.
