惊人的水果
The term ‘aesthetic’ itself is abstract and cannot be defined.
On Valentine’s Day in 2018, I first saw white strawberries in
a shopping mall, which symbolized ‘romance’ and were sold
at several times higher prices than red strawberries.
In fact, the nutritional value of this artificially cultivated
white strawberry is not as high as that of red strawberries.
Some changes are made to make fruit taste better, but some
changes are made to make the fruit look ‘better’, more in
line with human ‘aesthetics’ and gain higher market profits.
As fruits proliferate in greenhouses, some fruits develop a
genetic mutation that makes them less likely to produce
anthocyanins or carotenoids, causing the fruit to change
color or even turn white. In my work, I used satire and
humor to surreally express this consumption phenomenon.
Wondering if we really need this unique ‘aesthetic.’
