Abstract
The Sleep Report 2024 states that most Chinese people suffer from sleep disorders. Heavy traffic and socialising in cities drive people to run like never-ending machines. Along with coffee and melatonin, people seem to be used to fighting attention fatigue in this way. But their dependence is just as worrisome. Can people choose a natural way to direct their attention to relaxation and thus improve the quality of sleep?
Based on this vision, this project is theoretically based on the Attention Restoration Theory. In this theory I found that natural environments are made restorative due to their unique attractiveness. I then used field research to collect information on the attractiveness of nature and concluded that nature’s attractiveness focuses on physical sensations, visual experiences and auditory experiences. Considering that 20 minutes of natural interaction can reduce the stress level of human beings, I set the site of the project in a public transport space such as an underground. By placing the three experiences in the space, I created a restorative environment inspired by the soft attraction of nature that is uniquely suited to the underground.
