Xueying Feng

I am a designer interested in how everyday experiences, local environments and social conditions shape the choices people make. My practice is grounded in listening, observation and participation. I use interviews, visual storytelling and playful interactions to translate complex issues into experiences that feel accessible and human. I am particularly drawn to projects involving young people, communities and moments of uncertainty, where design can create space for reflection, conversation and new ways of understanding ourselves and the possibilities around us.

My work begins with curiosity about how people navigate situations that are unfamiliar, uncertain or difficult to describe. Rather than designing from assumptions, I try to listen carefully to lived experiences and understand the social and local conditions surrounding them. Research is not only a way of collecting information for me; it is also a way of building trust and discovering questions that may otherwise remain hidden.
I am interested in participatory and playful methods because they can make serious subjects feel less intimidating. Cards, games, conversations and visual narratives allow people to explore possibilities without being judged for having an incomplete answer. Through my practice, I do not aim to prescribe a single solution. I want to create open and approachable experiences that help people recognise their own knowledge, express uncertainty and imagine possible next steps together.
