Xiaowei Liu

I am Xiaowei Liu, a human-centred service designer currently studying MDes Design Innovation and Service Design at the Glasgow School of Art. My interdisciplinary practice moves across product, digital, service, exploring environmental health, human care, social participation and sustainable development.

Through research, systems thinking, visual communication and prototyping, I turn complex social and environmental issues into clear, practical and meaningful services. I am interested in designing with people, not only for them, and in creating services that are more caring, inclusive and sustainable.

Before You Go:Food Share

A food-rescue service that combines digital coordination with a local sharing point.

Food waste is often treated as an ordinary household problem. In student accommodation, food can become unwanted when plans change, people travel or residents move out. The easiest route is often the communal bin.

Before You Go: iQ Food Share is a food-rescue service for managed student accommodation. It combines digital coordination through the existing iQ app structure with a numbered ambient food-sharing station.

The service helps residents share eligible unused food before travel or move-out. A resident creates a draft listing, places the food in a numbered cubby and confirms the drop-off. Other residents can then find and collect the food through the app.
