Zoned EVA Insole
Zoned EVA Insole is a biomechanically informed insole designed to improve comfort in high-heeled footwear by redistributing pressure across the foot. Instead of relying on uniform cushioning, the design uses functional material zones with different levels of stiffness: softer areas provide cushioning and pressure relief, while firmer zones support the arch and stabilise the heel.
Developed through CAD, physical prototyping, compression and plantar-pressure testing, the final design reduced peak forefoot pressure by 22.4%, from 312 kPa to 242 kPa. Its thin, tapered construction allows it to fit discreetly inside existing high-heeled shoes without requiring any modification to the footwear.
The project explores how material zoning, variable stiffness and controlled thickness can create a more supportive and comfortable experience while responding to the limited internal space of high-heeled footwear.
