Liminal Kitchen: Flexible Infill for Student Shared Cooking

This project explored how a student shared kitchen could support changing degrees of social participation without prescribing interaction. The final proposal retains essential cooking infrastructure while introducing locally adjustable worktops that change position, orientation and shared focus.

Design testing showed the importance of keeping adjustment local, legible, reversible and within defined movement ranges. The resulting system allows residents to use the kitchen independently, remain together with separate activity focuses, or bring movable elements together to form a temporary social centre.
