My recent research explores how individuals enter into and adapt to social structures. As desire and collective influence flow between people, the boundaries between the self and the group become increasingly blurred. A sense of belonging creates connection, while simultaneously accumulating and shaping one’s sense of identity.

Abstract figurative painting titled Diffusion (2026) by Cong Chen. Two elongated human figures stand closely together at the center, their bodies partially merging into a surrounding field of flowing, distorted forms. Layers of yellow, orange, blue, green, pink and black blend across the canvas, making the boundaries between the figures and their environment increasingly unclear. The expressive composition explores connection, collective influence and the shifting relationship between individual and group identity.
