Almost RIGHT
Almost Right is a practice based research project investigating how familiar interior environments can be deliberately disrupted to produce experiences of strangeness, unease and curiosity. Grounded in theories of predictive processing and place schema, the research examines how expectations of spatial proportion, material behaviour, sensory conditions, object placement and bodily interaction influence the perception of interior space. Through theoretical research and precedent analysis, these findings were translated into a spatial design toolkit comprising five tactics including Architectural Dislocation, Material Subversion, Environmental Uncoupling, Behavioural Disruption and Object Displacement.
Rather than designing the unfamiliar, Almost Right asks how little needs to change before the familiar begins to feel strange.
