A girl who has a garden
《拥有花园的女孩》是一本图画书，讲述了可可的故事。可可的头发长成了一座野生花园。随着她长大，周围的人开始修剪、重新粉刷、重新布置她的头发，教她什么样的形状才算整洁、讨人喜欢、得体。他们的“纠正”逐渐影响了可可的判断，直到她开始自己打理这座花园。
该项目运用植物隐喻、叙事手法和材料变化，追溯了从外部性别规范到自我约束的转变。水彩、彩色铅笔和蜡笔的运用展现了花园的生机，而更为平淡柔和的笔触则体现了控制与顺从。
故事并没有以完美的康复告终，而是讲述了可可逐渐意识到自己失去了什么，并开始朝着自己的方向重新成长。
But Coco grew a whole wild garden. When she was little, it grew every which way. And she loved it.
People told Coco that she would thank them one day, that they knew what was best for her, and that it was all for her own good. Their words gathered into a dark liquid and pressed down on her, leaving less and less room for her own voice and shape.
The pressure did not stop with words. Small figures began to cut, repaint and rearrange Coco’s garden. They removed its strange and lively parts and replaced them with neat decorations. Piece by piece, the garden became more acceptable to others, while Coco became harder to find inside it.
After being corrected again and again, Coco began to believe that her garden really was wrong. No one needed to tell her what to do anymore. Facing the mirror, she picked up the scissors and cut away every branch that still grew beyond the neat shape she had learned to copy. She was now repeating other people’s corrections on herself.
