Artificial Aura

Artificial Aura

By challenging gender expectations and through conscious material and construction choices, my knitwear collection contributes positively to a more sustainable and inclusive fashion future.

The collection draws visual inspiration from a repetitive approach to scanning, re-scanning and layering to distort and abstract recognisable knitwear features, creating an ‘aura’ of the original garment. Through this, my work became centred on subverting traditional knitwear construction.

I prioritised slow-making techniques throughout the production process, opting for fully fashioned pieces over cut-and-sew methods to significantly reduce yarn waste.

I also used hand-painted Procion dyes to create the atmospheric colour palette throughout, using experimental and unpredictable techniques to contrast the highly controlled nature of knit.
