Liberty Thompson

This collection of six works represents the sometimes slow passing of time. For when the days merge into one and when it feels the next morning will never arrive.

Thompson’s works, painted in oil, shows the quiet and still moments of the morning. The early sunlight paired with a focus on the mundane corners of room such as the floor boards help to create the narrative of living the same day over and over.

Through her use of a vibrant colour pallet and soft bush strokes, Thompson produces ambient and sometimes voyeuristic compositions of the domestic space. The works evoke a dreamlike sense of nostalgia in the let the viewer reflect and relate these emotions.

All situated in one room, she highlights through her work the repetitive nature of feeling stuck both mentally and physically. With reference to Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s book ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ first published in 1892.
