Henry Conlon
I am a creative with a background in sound design/recording and product design. I’m always interested in exploring creative possibilities and using my practical skills to discover new ideas and innovations. my work often explores interactivity and tactility through multiple media.
Self-directed Project
In this Semester 2 project, I was given the opportunity to explore a project and theme of my choice over a 13 week period. This would involve creating a piece of work applicable to the course themes as well as writing a journal style essay, documenting and reflecting on the process.
I decided to build on my skills in physical making and explore my interest in music by designing and creating a guitar from scratch. while carrying out this project, I wanted to film the whole process and focus on the small details within the process. All of this allowed me to reflect on why I enjoy the making and designing process as well as if making an instrument as a musician brings me closer to my craft as a musician.
Site, Sight, Zeit
Discovering creativity through location, materiality, and temporality.
Site, Sight, Zeit is a curated exhibition used as a medium for my exploration in where I find the spark of creativity. What is shown in this exhibition are my primary research findings through exploring new skills, mediums, and ways of thinking which allowed me to reflect on my own journey as a creative.
In this project, I explored using various creative outlets such as; audio production, site recording and filming; scanning, pinhole and digital photography; and communication design such as poster design and exhibition curation.
Through my research, I found that location, materiality and temporality were big factors in my creative journey and used these to further reflect and speculate on lessons and outlooks to hold onto in further creative opportunities.
What you see displayed is my pinhole photography from each location; audio pieces composed from only sounds found at these locations and an artefact that I feel has been important to each location and the journey of my project.
