Geti Liu was born in China and is currently studying at the Glasgow School of Art.
Her practice revolves around memory, place, and environmental change. The work stems from her personal memories of a disappearing hometown landscape — the mountains, rivers, and trees she knew as a child, gradually replaced by roads and buildings amid rapid urban development.
Through painting, she tries to recall these transformed places, weaving together memory, emotion, and imagination to construct new landscape spaces. The scenes in her paintings are all drawn from real memories, and she likes to bring together various remembered elements within a single image. Shaped by the passage of time and the nature of memory itself, the paintings take on a blurred, fluid quality.Colour plays a central role in her work — it depicts the landscape while also conveying nostalgia, loss, and the emotions left behind by the passing of time, often rendered through vivid, saturated hues.
Through these works, Geti reflects on the connection between people and place, and considers how the traces left in memory continue to shape her perception and emotion when familiar environments change.
The Sun-Melted Room
A small painting based on the kitchen my grandmother built herself. Though the space no longer exists, it remains vivid in memory. Warm yellow and orange tones evoke the sunlight that once filled the room.

The Mountained Room
A painting exploring memory and domestic space, developed from a smaller study of my grandmother’s kitchen. Here, a kitchen interior merges with a mountain landscape — mountains appear beyond the window, a tree grows within the room, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior, and allowing memory, domestic life and nature to converge.

A River of What Was
A painting developed from a river that connects fragments of memory, including buildings I once lived in, a large tree, and a yellow car recalling childhood journeys with my father.

A painting reconstructing the landscape of my hometown across three sections — a highway bridge above, fields and a doorway from my family home in the middle, merging architecture, nature and memory into a dreamlike space.
