Emily Irvine

(she/her)

Hi, my name is Emily and I am a 3D artist with specialisation in hyper-realism. Over the past year I have improved my skill set by studying the masters in Medical Visualisation and Human anatomy. I loved learning about the human form and applying it to my work.

A Head of the Curve: Visualising Foetal Cranial Growth in 3D

My masters research project was creating an interactive 3D educational application for medical/anatomy students on the development of the foetal cranium throughout pregnancy. The first goal of the project was to determine whether 3D animations of foetal cranial growth improve student comprehension around the subject matter of a process that is unable to be observed in real time. The second goal of the project was to investigate whether 3d also enhances the learning to make it more engaging and accessible to students.

To create this project the Foetal specimens from the Anatomy Museum were scanned and then edited in industry standard 3D software. They were then exported into the Unity game engine for the final application.
