In this project, I explore pleating as both a way of making zero waste garments and a more thoughtful approach to fashion design. Inspired by the folding systems of insect exoskeletons and natural forms, I experiment with creating volume, texture, and shape through folding instead of excessive cutting. I work with uncut fabric panels, using pleating, tension, compression, and repetition to build each piece. The work is influenced by the sculptural draping of Madame Grès and contemporary pleating techniques. Through this process, I’ve developed a stronger awareness of materials and see pleating as both my visual language and a more responsible design approach.
