Adrienne Murray

Adrienne Murray (b. 1996) is a Scottish artist who works with printmaking, sculpture, installation and sound. During her time at Glasgow School of Art, Adrienne has explored the imagery of eggs as a means of communicating the intrinsic strength that can be found within vulnerability. Adrienne believes that the only way to respond to cruelty, apathy and desensitisation within the age of the digital is to try to encourage sensitivity, instinct and feeling. Within her creative process she fragments and transmutes imagery of everyday matter as a way of expressing the magic of the world around us and the poetry of being as a sensorial experience.

‘And Out Pours the Yolk’, an image of a rock growing daisies, shattered open pouring egg yolk, explores the catharsis of the realisation that all things are vulnerable, including the seemingly strong and powerful.

The Mystery and The Moral
A mixed media work with printed elements which includes pressed petals which have been used as a surface for etching. The work depicts a gust of flower petals, each containing either a small nail or a flower, it is up to chance where the petals fall, and who they hit along the way.

Cacophony
‘Cacophony’, the central focus of her degree show, uses fragile and delicate materials precariously exposed within open space to encourage an audience to exist within a state of both child-like curiosity and care. The work considers the discomfort and fear that vulnerability can arouse within people, while presenting vulnerability as being a universal and inescapable truth which exists within the core of all things.

A series of photopolymer prints which uses a motif of eggs as a feminist symbol, depicting varying narratives of vulnerability, agency, and desire.

‘Baby’s Breath’ is an etching and debossing which explores the visceral feminine. A cryptic image of a fried egg pierced with a nail growing baby’s breath flowers balances ideas of creation, discomfort, violence, and growth.
