My creative practice draws inspiration from JENNIE, whose work reinterprets Korean culture globally while challenging rigid aesthetic norms. Building on this vision, I reimagine the hanbok as a contemporary medium for individual identity rather than a symbol of historical bodily discipline. Historical research reveals how traditional hanbok concealed and restrained women’s bodies, which I contrast with the defiant autonomy of Black sagging culture, centring its iconic boxer shorts as a key reference. I run experimental 3D draping tests to reconstruct hanbok’s flowing head-draped robes and strip away its confining layered frameworks. This cross-cultural dialogue turns clothing from passive body coverage into bold self-expression, advocating bodily autonomy, genuine cross-cultural exchange and inclusive
fashion storytelling that celebrates diverse identities and empowers universal authentic self-expression.
