This project uses all the Tesco thermal purchase receipts I kept during my eight-month study in the UK as my personal life archive. It conducts a visual study based on the frequent consumption records generated from living alone in a foreign country and daily s
elf-prepared purchases. The repetitive supermarket shopping behavior on a daily basis gradually establishes a stable order for the
traveling life; while the thermal receipts themselves have physical characteristics such as fading, wear and tear, and the fading of
handwriting over time, which make this consumption trace a special visual evidence carrying the passage of time, individual memories, and the growth journey in an overseas environment. The project systematically sorts out the chronological consumption data for eight months and deeply explores the dynamic changes in personal dietary preferences, living conditions, and mood. The monthly consumption frequency is not fixed and fluctuates with the change of seasons, personal adaptation and growth, living habits, and emotional states, truly reflecting the subtle self-transformation during the period of living alone abroad. The work is based on the basic structure and information of the receipts to complete the visual translation of the microscopic daily consumption traces. The final outcome is centered on a wide-format PVC archive, using the characteristic of transparent overlapping of the material to create a
stacking effect of memory remnants, and visually presenting the state of accumulated time and fading memory; the accompanying
explanatory booklet and theme visual poster complete the entire work system. This work reflects the common state of overseas solo living individuals through an individual’s microscopic life archive, aiming to evoke emotional resonance among people living in foreign lands and interpret the private growth memories carried by ordinary daily objects and the collective emotional value of overseas life.
