The Sunken Soul
Gender Inclusive/Zero Waste
The seed of this collection grew while listening to the melancholic purity of Armenian music. It made me think of the documentary ‘Coda’ by Ryuichi Sakamoto where he plays ambient and soothing music on a broken piano which had been submerged under water after the Japanese tsunami of 2011 and had, in his words, been “re-tuned by nature”
My research compared the inner workings of a damaged piano with that of a dented soul which I contrasted with elements of Armenian costume.
Through my fabric choices and cutting techniques, I hope to have achieved clothing that has an emotional connection with the wearer and is similarly atmospheric, gentle and relaxing.
